Reading Response: "Web Work: A History of Internet Art" by Rachel Greene

In this reading, "Web Work: A History of Internet Art" by Rachel Greene, she talks about art through the medium of digital/computer-generated. She starts her writing with the definition of "Net.Art" which was a way to communicate between artists through online. Throughout Greene's writing, she goes over the history of how art was being communicated through the web and as well as how artists took this chance to create their own pieces through coding and web designs as well. When Greene said, "it was clear that Internet technologies were fast becoming significant cultural and economic phenomena" (164), I started to realize how much our society today relies so much on technology to communicate as well as even doing work.

In today's society, it is important to artists that their artworks are shown to many people. With the help of technology, one click of a "share" button can potentially change one's life. We are all so reliant on technology that it became the easiest way of communication for all audiences than it did back then.

This reading enlightened me as well as inspired me to start taking more notice on art not just through social media that people post, but as well as the interface as a whole. A lot of work goes into sites itself and many web designers (who are artists as well) put time and thought into creating websites that are their masterpieces. Art is everywhere even in the technology we use every day. Although we don't put much attention to it much, this reading lets us see that the history behind different art styles using the web inspires us to learn more.
